A jungle oasis!
The property is in such a unique location - it’s a climb to get there but worth it. The grounds are beautiful and we loved the wildlife. Staff were so attentive and friendly. We added on to do an overnight jungle trek and it was the best experience we have had. Thank you to everyone involved.
My only preference would be to have some sort of water filter available in the rooms, or free water filter in the restaurant. I’m not sure if that is possible with the hotel grounds, but it would have been nice to have access to free water. We really enjoyed the stay regardless.

Perfect jungle escape
On the Rocks is amazing. The staff are so friendly and the place itself is breathtaking. They have put so much thought into connecting you with the jungle around you. We stayed in one of the villas with a view across to the waterfall, and could see two different types of monkeys each day! I would love to return. Also the staff are so helpful at arranging everything for you - we got a private taxi from Medan airport and back again, and did the jungle tour where we saw 8 orangutans!
Nothing - it was perfect. As other reviewers note, the place is up some stairs from the town, so be prepared for that but it’s only five minutes and then you get such wonderful views and environment it is so so worth it. Plus the team help with your bag on the way up and down.

Definitely a place that I will never forget and highly recommend!
Wawan and his team at On the Rocks were so accommodating throughout my stay. They sorted airport transfers and met any needs I had, such as laundry and booking activities. The stairs up to On the Rocks aren’t for the faint of heart but the trek up is so worth it once there. It backs on to the jungle, has a pool, air-conditioned rooms, beautifully well-kept grounds and a lovely restaurant. I enjoyed watching the monkeys in the trees that surrounded the property. The overnight trek was amazing! The food was great, our guides and camp cook were awesome and the camp site was situated in the best place on its own and away from the hustle and bustle of the other camps with a stream and waterfall right next to it (it also had a seated toilet). We had Orangutans visit us at the camp, along with different monkey species and saw hornbills fly over us. The rafting back was so much fun the next day. Wawan also organised the trip to Tangkahan for me to bath and trek with the elephants which was also an amazing experience.
There wasn’t really anything not to like. There’s just luxuries that you forgo because you stay at the top of the hill in the jungle.
