The highlight of our 4 weeks in Japan
It was so lovely to stay in a beautifully restored house in Obi township close to the castle ruins. Our host provided very clear instructions on how to find the house, and the nearby car park, and we appreciated the small welcome snacks and drinks, as well as the delicious craft beer on tap. It is a wonderful space with comfortable beds, a beautiful big bathroom, cooking facilities and garden outlook. We loved the peacefulness of the township and learning about the castle history, and enjoyed a beautiful breakfast at Gallery Kodama on the two mornings of our stay, as well as sampling other local products. I strongly recommend Obi, and the Sai residence, as a good base for exploring around the area. Treat yourself - you won't regret it!
There wasn't anything we disliked - but I would note the narrow staircase to the bedroom would not work for those with limited mobility. We were initially disconcerted by the noise of passing school traffic (the house is right by the road) but decided it was all part of experiencing life in a Japanese village and it was quiet overnight (and we slept well).
