    When you arrive at Panchkote Raj down a series of lanes and through the security gate you begin to question your decision. The entrance is ramshackle but then you step into the courtyard and the historical building unfolds. This maharaja residence is still family run. It has access to its own ghat and sits right on the Ganges. Walking into the main ghats through the lanes is fun and it is a 15 min walk to Assi Ghat for the morning/ afternoon Aarti. Perfect location, quiet, comfortable rooms with good AC. The breakfasts and dinners are good as well. We enjoyed our stay and the grounds will improve over time - a work in progress. I suggest you ask for a shuttle to be arranged ( at a reasonable cost) as it can be difficult to find.

    The bathroom could use a little extra attention.

    A wonderfully peaceful stay with a fantastic view, excellent food, and incredibly kind staff

    I had a wonderful two-night stay here in Varanasi. The location was fantastic: slightly tucked away from the busy streets, which made it wonderfully peaceful and gave me a chance to escape the intensity of Varanasi, while still being perfectly located to reach everything easily. The view of the Ganges was absolutely beautiful, and the hotel’s secluded setting created such a sense of calm and tranquility. It was the perfect place to relax before and after exploring the city. The staff were also fantastic: incredibly kind, welcoming, and helpful throughout my stay. I could also borrow a yoga mat. A special mention goes to the cook, who prepared absolutely delicious meals. Both breakfast and the lunch I had at the hotel were excellent and fresh.
