    Lodge was lovely and clean.

The side of the lodge where the hot tub is was not closed off. Anyone could walk around.

Beautiful lodge, lacking amenities, inappropriate staff

Lovely lodge in a beautiful setting, but some important issues need addressing We had a really lovely stay at Prancing Hare Woodlands Lodge. Overall, the lodge was absolutely wonderful — spacious, comfortable and in a beautiful setting. Our particular lodge was quite isolated from the others, which we really liked as it meant we didn’t have neighbours close by. The surrounding woodland was beautiful and we enjoyed a lovely woodland walk during our stay. The beds were really comfortable and we all slept very well. The lodge was well equipped with plenty of plates, cutlery, wine glasses and other kitchen equipment, which was brilliant. Towels were also provided for everyone. The handbook was particularly useful and had lots of information about local restaurants, places to visit, takeaways and other useful recommendations. The hot tub was definitely a highlight. It was actually bigger than it looked in the photographs and was lovely and warm and ready to use when we arrived. That said, although it was bigger than expected, we did struggle to comfortably fit five adults in it. Also, on one night the hot tub unexpectedly came on at around 1:40am. We’re not sure whether this was a filtration cycle or something on a timer, but it was surprisingly noisy and woke the people sleeping in the bedroom directly next to it. It could also be heard upstairs. There were unfortunately quite a few practical things that could be improved. There were five adults staying for two nights and only two toilet rolls were provided, which wasn’t enough for the group. The nearest shop was around 10 minutes away, meaning we had to make a 20-minute round trip just to buy toilet paper, using our own time and petrol for something that we would reasonably expect to have been provided.

The biggest issue — privacy The biggest issue for us, and something we feel really needs addressing, was the repeated lack of privacy caused by someone entering and walking around the property. On multiple occasions throughout the daytime, a woman who was driving a van bearing the Woodlands Lodges name came onto our property. We assumed she was an employee or someone connected with the site, although she never introduced herself, knocked or explained who she was or why she needed to be there. This was not an isolated incident. It happened multiple times during our stay, with her repeatedly walking around the outside of our lodge and past the living room windows. At one point she was also sitting in a privately owned blue car parked in one of the parking spaces directly outside our lodge. We have absolutely no idea why she was there or what she was doing. Because there was no explanation or communication from her, it left us feeling extremely uncomfortable and, frankly, as though we were being watched. We could have been doing absolutely anything while we were staying there. We could have been sitting outside, relaxing in the hot tub, getting changed, undressing, or simply enjoying the property in whatever way we wanted to. There was a genuine possibility that she could have seen us in a state of undress through the windows or by walking around the property. On the final morning, before our 10am check-out time, she came onto the property again and walked all the way around to the hot tub area. We had paid to have exclusive use of the lodge until 10am and were therefore perfectly entitled to still be using the hot tub, getting changed, sitting outside or simply having our morning in private. She could easily have walked around the corner and found any member of our party undressed, changing or in swimwear. We completely understand that she may have been a ranger, cleaner, caretaker or otherwise carrying out legitimate work on the site.

Too far out from everything, unable to walk to shops no internet facilities.

    Peaceful area

The property advertised with internet facilities this was not the case. You could not get no connection, we were not able to watch the tv, use our phones or iPad due to no signal so we’re reliant upon Wi-Fi. There was no Wi-Fi connection, I spoke to multiple people who had the same issue. When the staff were informed they just fobbed us off saying that they had re started the router but it never worked.
