Conveniently close to the mail station, inconveniently loud when it rains.
To be fair, though, there are some positives as well. The apartment is very close to the main bus station, you just have to cross the street, which is very convenient if you want to stay near the station. It is nicely furnished and well equipped, with all the necessary appliances, towels and shampoo. There is plenty of space, the bed is comfortable, and there is a coffee machine. Another plus is that there are lockers available where you can leave your luggage, which is aso convenient. I’m giving it a rating of 5 because of the unpleasant experience with the noise and the difficulty finding the correct entrance. Other than that, I have no complaints.
I’d like to share a few things that bothered me during my stay, as they might be useful to other travellers who care about these details. First of all, there are two or more entrances, but the map takes you only to one of them. If you arrive at night, in the dark, in the rain or cold, and you’re on your own with your luggage, it’s not a particularly pleasant experience to stand outside waiting for someone to read your message and explain that there is another entrance with a different access code. You’ve been emailed one code, so you keep trying to get in, but it simply doesn’t work. Secondly, the path to that other entrance to the apartment is dark and muddy, and you have to enter through something what feels like a basement. This can be quite uncomfortable, especially for women travelling alone, as this is not a traditional hotel but a self-service accommodation. There is no reception or staff physically present, so all communication is done via messages. The entire surrounding area is also very dark. Another issue is the noise when it rains at night. Since the apartments are on a lower ground floor, there is a good chance you’ll be woken up by drops hitting a metal sheet directly above the window, which is right above your head. And no, there’s really no way to prevent this other than wearing earplugs. 😁 This is something the owners should address by installing gutters or otherwise preventing rainwater from running directly onto the metal above the window. After all, rain is pretty common in the Baltics. :) The water heater is also quite noisy. All in all, if you’re exhausted, arriving late at night for a late check-in, and it happens to be raining, this might not be the best accommodation for you, as you may not get the rest you were hoping for.
