    Poor Communication and Unsettling Lack of Privacy

    Beautiful setting in the Elqui Valley.

    Our stay at Refugios Pisco Elqui Lodge was, unfortunately, quite bizarre and let down by very poor communication. On arrival, there was no response at the gate, so we had to WhatsApp before someone came to show us to the lodge. We were then given conflicting instructions about payment and how to leave the property early the following morning, and had to contact multiple different people to try to get straightforward answers. The most concerning incident happened during the night, when someone entered our locked lodge through a sliding door while we were asleep. We later saw that they had called several times to discuss payment, but entering an occupied property without first getting a response or permission was extremely unsettling and, in our view, completely inappropriate.
