Was welcomed with great hospitality by Tiolina.
The owner, Tiolina went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful. We had released our driver for the day and then we found out that the Ruma Kaca Cafe was closed for dinner. Tiolina with her son drove us to Tuk-Tuk, a half hour each way so that we could have a nice dinner that evening. I also had the 'runs' from the lunch I ate before arriving at Ruma Kaca and Tiolina brought me medicine that quickly made me feel better. The breakfast was excellent and was served in the beautiful garden with tropical flowers and seating areas. There is a Batak cultural museum on the grounds with historical objects as well as local books and musical instruments in the colonial style houses. I walked to the Toba lakeshore and flew my drone around a scenic area of the lake.
As an American I missed not having air conditioning in the bedroom. AC would have made the room more comfortable.

Ruma Kaca was a real surprise!
Henry picked us up at the pier, and after a short walk, we reached Ruma Kaca. The garden is wonderful and very lovingly maintained. The entrance of the colonial house is charmingly decorated, almost like a little dollhouse. There are many memorable photos of Tiolina’s father and grandfather. Our room was spacious enough. We had a fan, which was perfectly sufficient. The bed was very comfortable, and I think it was wider than it was long! We slept wonderfully. We rented a scooter for two days to explore a little of the island. It would have been nice if porridge or cereals had also been available as breakfast options. Tiolina, her son Rafael, and the entire staff were very friendly, helpful, and attentive.
Ruma Kaca is quite far from everything. Unfortunately, there is no direct access to the lake. We noticed the same thing at almost all the places we visited during our excursions.

Rustgevende homestay
