  A lovely, peaceful stay in beautiful surroundings, although a few improvements to the villa maintenance, dining options

  We stayed at Sanctoo Suites & Villas for four nights in one of their private pool villas and, overall, had a lovely stay. The villa itself was spacious, comfortable and had plenty of storage for unpacking, with beautiful views and a lovely private outdoor area. The surroundings were peaceful, and being next to Bali Zoo meant we could hear the animals and the sound of a waterfall, which added to the atmosphere. Breakfast was included and we enjoyed it on three mornings, choosing to eat elsewhere on the fourth for a change. The breakfast restaurant was in a lovely setting, and the food was generally good, although the eggs were slightly overcooked on one occasion, which wasn’t a major issue. The staff were friendly, polite and clearly very keen to ensure guests were enjoying their stay. When we mentioned an issue with smoke entering our villa through the air conditioning, they promptly provided an air purifier, which did help somewhat. I also had a massage at the spa, which was good, and the spa itself was in a lovely, relaxing setting. The location was another positive for us. It’s away from the busy tourist areas, making it peaceful and quiet. We had a scooter, so getting around was relatively easy. Overall, Sanctoo is a lovely property in beautiful surroundings, and despite a few areas that could do with improvement, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere quieter in Bali.

  Although we enjoyed our stay, there were a few things that I feel could be improved. Firstly, the decking around the private pool in our villa was in desperate need of replacing. Several sections were rotten, with holes in the wood, some of which had been covered by the sunbeds. This really needs addressing, particularly from a safety perspective. The two sunbeds were also very old and difficult to move. Replacing them with newer ones on wheels would make a huge difference, especially when trying to move them into the sun. The food was another disappointment. While breakfast was generally fine, the lunch and dinner menu was exactly the same and rather uninspiring. We ordered room service twice, and the food was average at best. We ended up eating out every evening because there simply wasn’t anything on the menu that particularly appealed to us. I think the hotel would benefit from reviewing its menu and offering more variety. Unfortunately, we also experienced an issue with smoke entering our villa through the air conditioning. On our second night, we were woken at around 2 a.m. by an overwhelming smell of burning rubbish. We didn’t contact reception at the time, partly because of the hour and partly because there was very little they could realistically do. We mentioned it the following morning, and an air purifier was provided, which helped by approximately 50%. However, we could still smell smoke inside the villa for the remainder of our stay. I appreciate this is not the hotel’s fault, as Bali has an ongoing issue with rubbish being burned in local communities, but it unfortunately affected our comfort. We also had some noisy neighbours in another villa one evening. I eventually asked them to keep the noise down, which they did. Reception was made aware afterwards and offered to assist if it happened again. One thing I personally found a little overwhelming was the constant attention from staff.

  Excellent hotel was Awsome and the service 10/10

  Excellent location to Bali zoo and could here the sounds of the animals at night
