Villa Longobardi has lots of space to spread out and plenty of places to sit, both inside and outside. It would be a great choice for a large family or group traveling together. The views across the water toward the mountains are beautiful, and the area is wonderfully peaceful and quiet. Our host was friendly, helpful and went out of his way for us. He let us stay until 6:00 PM on our last day, personally drove us to a restaurant at Marathi Beach on our first night, and arranged a taxi for us the following day. There is a gate from the property leading directly toward the water. If you are outdoorsy and adventurous, you can take a dip very close to the villa. Just be prepared—the path is rough and rocky, so wear proper shoes and take your time. The villa is not too far from Chania Airport, but it is in a quiet and fairly remote area. We strongly recommend having a rental car, especially for groceries, restaurants and sightseeing. If you want plenty of space, beautiful views and somewhere peaceful away from the crowds, this is a lovely place to relax.
A few things to know: stray cats sometimes visit the property, which may be difficult for guests with allergies, although they do not belong to the owner. This is an older, traditional home rather than a luxury villa, so some furniture and appliances are dated, but everything needed is provided and functional. Larger groups may need to coordinate shower times for hot water. Bring groceries with you, especially if arriving late or without a rental car, as shops and restaurants are not close by.
