A Premium Price for a Compromised Experience (resort under major reconstruction)
The hotel's location is undoubtedly its strongest asset (and currently the only one) with beautiful surroundings and convenient access to the beach. Unfortunately, the overall experience fell far short of what one would expect from a Sheraton resort.
Extremely disappointing experience, particularly for our honeymoon. The hotel is currently undergoing extensive reconstruction following the hurricane, with most of its amenities unavailable, including the main swimming pool, hot tub, and restaurant. The only remaining pool feels more like a basic public swimming pool than a resort facility. Be prepared to feel like you're on a construction site: noise all day long and dozens and dozens of construction workers on the premises all day. Barricades, barriers, dumpsters, destroyed furniture on the balconies, trash, and piles of rubble everywhere. The beach is unmaintained and completely run-down. There are no chairs or beach loungers available. Restaurants closed. What is particularly unacceptable is that we were never informed of the extent of the damage or the numerous closures before our arrival, despite having booked our stay well in advance. Instead, we had to discover these limitations ourselves, one by one. In fact, they give you a map of the resort; but it's incomplete because ... it's cut in half (yes half of the property is devastated)! You can't see the waterfront, the restaurants, the main pool, the hot tub, etc. Talk about that.. The front desk service was equally disappointing. Staff were cold, unwelcoming, and showed no empathy or willingness to address our concerns. When we tried to address the issue, they were even rude: rolling their eyes, sighing, and throwing the keys down violently, And don't even think to ask for a late check out: it's a NO and a very strict policy enforced. Despite the significantly diminished experience, no discount, compensation, or goodwill gesture was offered.
