  Tranquil hidden gem is a bargain

  This is a great location if you want quiet and solitude during your stay in Puerto Viejo. It's located just about 200M up a little-used side road off the main highway. You can walk to Playa Negra in about 2 minutes or into town in about 15 minutes along the beach or using the safe sidewalk. There are only a small number of units, so it's not busy at all. In fact, I only occasionally even glimpsed anyone else while I was there. The most noise I ever dealt with was sounds of howler monkeys in the morning a few times, which is why you come to Costa Rica in the first place, right? The unit itself was great. It's basically an apartment. It had a small kitchen that was stocked with the utensils and pans needed to make breakfast. There is a small sitting area next to the kitchen, as well as a comfortable couch on the front porch. The bedroom had a comfortable double bed and the bathroom was clean. There is a window AC unit and a ceiling that kept it cool and comfortable even when the heat and humidity outside were oppressive. The incredibly helpful and gracious property manager, Lucia, was accommodating and very responsive. She answered any questions very quickly and kept it clean with a mid-week cleaning. She also will do a load of laundry for a very reasonable price, so you can pack a little lighter even if it's a longer stay. I was traveling solo, so it was plenty of room for me. I think it would work well for a couple, too, but it would be a little cozy. Overall, it far exceeded my expectations for the price.

  Una espantosa experiencia

  El lugar muy bello!

  Tuvieron el ATREVIMIENTO de ingresar al apartamento sin mi permiso y sin estar yo presente para apagar el aire acondicionado, me sentí TOTALMENTE INVADIDA. Según la muchacha ella me dijo al realizar el check-in que cuando yo saliera apagará el aire acondicionado, lo cual es cierto y lo entendí como una recomendación, pero según ella tenía el derecho de vigilarme e ingresar a apagarlo, lo cual no es permitido por las leyes de Costa Rica como se lo externé. Nunca en casi 30 años de viajar y en ningún país del mundo al que he ido me han hecho eso, fue totalmente irrespetuoso y sentí como si alguien hubiese entrado a robar, me dio miedo porque me sentí vigilada, una espantosa experiencia.
