Review your checkout bill for the room-safe charge I stayed at Sleep Inn & Suites Milwaukee Airport from September 23–26, 2026. At checkout, I noticed a $6 room-safe charge—$2 per night—even though I never used the safe. This fee had not been verbally explained to me at check-in. When I asked to have it removed, the front-desk employee repeatedly told me the charge was mandatory. Only after I continued questioning it and we reviewed the paperwork did it become clear that the charge could be removed upon request at checkout. She then acknowledged the mistake and removed it. I appreciate that it was ultimately corrected, but guests should not have to argue to remove an optional charge for something they did not use. My concern is less about the $6 than the lack of clear disclosure and the insistence that the fee was mandatory when the hotel’s own paperwork said otherwise. Management should clearly explain this charge and ensure front-desk staff understand the removal policy. Other guests should carefully review their itemized receipt before leaving.
