AWFUL!
The location was extremely convenient to Carowinds, which was the main reason we chose this hotel. Unfortunately, our experience purchasing Carowinds tickets directly from the hotel was very disappointing. We purchased our tickets in the hotel lobby and were never informed of any important entry requirements, including the need to have identification with us. Since we were staying so close, we walked over to the park without our IDs, only to get all the way to the entrance and be turned away. We then had to walk all the way back to the hotel to get them. What made the situation worse was the response when we returned and tried to explain what had happened. Rather than being helpful or understanding, the staff member was rude and dismissive. If a hotel is going to sell Carowinds tickets directly to its guests, especially when its proximity to the park is such a major selling point, it would be helpful for staff to communicate important entry requirements at the time of purchase. The location was great, but the lack of communication and poor customer service made what should have been a convenient experience incredibly frustrating.
Unfortunately, our entire stay was an extremely disappointing experience. Breakfast was one of the worst parts. We arrived at 8:45 a.m. and were told breakfast was available until 9:30 a.m., yet it already felt as though food was being rationed. There was no milk, and when my son asked for cereal, he was told he could not have any—even after saying he was perfectly happy eating it dry. Guests were also told they could only have one waffle because there supposedly was not enough for anyone to have more than one. Instead of a complimentary breakfast, it felt like we were being given scraps and monitored over how much food we were allowed to take. The problems extended well beyond breakfast. The staff were rude and unhelpful, and when we tried calling the front desk for assistance, we were repeatedly placed on hold. To make matters worse, there was no hot water in our shower. When you pay for a hotel stay, basic expectations include courteous service, hot water, the ability to reach the front desk, and access to the advertised breakfast during the stated breakfast hours. Unfortunately, our experience failed to meet even those basic expectations. Overall, this was a terrible stay and certainly not the level of hospitality or service we expected.
