The properly was a lovely location into the city of Bath. I live in the UK and had family down from South Africa for a family wedding and it was lovely being able to walk into town.

To be honest, we were quite disappointed with our stay here, particularly given the price of the accommodation. When we arrived, there was already a noticeable musty smell throughout the house. The windows are sealed shut, so there is very little opportunity to properly ventilate the property. We stayed for four nights with family who had travelled over from South Africa, during an incredibly warm spell of weather, and the house became extremely stuffy. We actually had to leave the main door open at times simply to get some fresh air into the property. When we went down to the basement to use the washing machine, we found a pile of wet, soggy towels left inside the drum which had a very unpleasant smell. My sister had to remove them herself and place them in a basket. We were also particularly disappointed with the cleanliness. The floors were visibly very dirty, and with our young nephew crawling around, we had to keep a close eye on him as his hands and feet were constantly becoming black from the floor. The kitchen, which is essentially underground, also has very little ventilation, making it extremely stuffy when cooking. Overall, we felt that a number of basic things had been overlooked, especially considering the cost of the property. It was particularly disappointing as we had family travelling a long way from South Africa to spend time together, and we had hoped for a more comfortable and well-maintained stay. That said, the location is lovely and Bath itself is a beautiful city. We just feel that the accommodation needs some attention to cleanliness, ventilation and general upkeep to make the experience match the price.

    Bed bug infestation

Good location within easy walking distance of the city centre. The host dealt with our complaint professionally by providing a full refund and additional compensation, which we appreciated.

Unfortunately, we found bed bugs in one of the bedrooms. One member of our group suffered multiple bites and we later found numerous bed bugs on the bed and headboard, making the room unusable. There was also a water leak from the upstairs bathroom into the ceiling below, and the house became extremely hot during our summer stay. Although fans were provided, they made only a limited difference and it was difficult to sleep comfortably. After returning home, all five members of our group took precautionary measures to reduce the risk of bringing bed bugs into our homes, including washing clothing at high temperatures, carefully inspecting luggage and belongings, and treating items where appropriate. A second member of our group developed bites a few days later. We later found a review from around a month before our stay that also mentioned bed bugs. We wish we had seen it before booking and taken heed. To the host’s credit, they agreed to provide a full refund together with additional compensation, which we appreciated. However, we would much rather have had the holiday we booked than needed a refund afterwards.

    Location, spacious.

Lots of stairs, not super clean, awkward layout (no bedside tables, lamps too big, plugs for phone charging not convenient), bed bugs in at least one room, no storage in bathrooms, flooring (sisal carpet and wood with gaps) not comfortable without shoes, and entire place seems worn but not charming like an old pub. Very warm inside due to heat wave, but only 2 fans for 5 bedrooms and no air conditioning.
