Very disappointing
I’ve known about the Sleeping Giant hotel for years and always wanted to stay here, so whilst travelling alone with my three children to visit family, decided on Penycae instead of an Air bnb. I liked the proximity of the parking to the suite, the outside seating area was nice and private, the air con would be a godsend in warm weather but we didn’t use. Huge bathroom with a powerful hot shower. The hotel is set away from the road which is helpful on this busy motorbike route. The Penycae Inn microzoo is always a hit with the kids. Reasonably priced drinks at the Inn too.
Our room was surrounded by three other rooms, two of which were occupied. Once my children were settled at 10pm the other guests arrived back at their rooms. It was obvious at this point that there’s insufficient sound proofing and we could hear everything going on. One set of room guests were young, drunk and selfish and despite me putting on white noise, still kept us up until 2am, then I was up with the baby when the sun rose due to blackout curtains *only just* fitting the window, certainly not like the blackout you’d get at a Holiday Inn. Everyone was running on fumes the next day to visit family and it ruined the whole trip being so tired with a baby and two children, and also quite stressful knowing I had to safely get us home a couple of hundred miles away after no sleep. I don’t think it’s acceptable to not have a night porter or an easy way to escalate these issues, it just kind of lets guests fend for themselves? There’s a section about noise nuisances in the guest book in the room but no telephone number. The bathroom also wasn’t clean. I have stayed at Oak Lodge at the Penycae Inn before and this also wasn’t clean, feet were constantly black. Here, the bathroom skirting areas needed a really good clean as there was a collection of bits left by other guests. The room itself was clean. Breakfast was overpriced for the offering, wasn’t made according to our order and items were undercooked. At this point I didn’t really care anymore as it was just another disappointment in a rubbish 12 hours.
