This is not a hotel but a pub with reasonable quality accomodation, but limited food menu.
The location is good, but with limited on site parking; first come first served basis. The rooms were in good order and well equipped with good bathrooms; simple but effective furniture and narrow double beds. Good heating and plenty of hot water
We had to go next door to a Cafe/Diner for breakfast. This required a pass which had to be issued upon request each day from one of the hotel/Pub staff and ideally needed to be requested the night before, as there were no staff on duty after mid night until late morning. The owners lived close by and were contactable by intercom. The Bay Hotel is fundamentally a Pub with a large number of guest rooms. It functions as a pub primarily with a locally based clientele. There is a limited food menu for lunch and evening sessions, but there is no on site meal facilities for breakfast and no menu available on Mondays which is the chef's day off.

Good parking, and a short drive from Eastbourne. The room was spacious, with tea/coffee supplied.
Very poor quality and flat pillows. The sports bar downstairs was quite tacky, decked out in Halloween. I didn't feel comfortable having a drink in there. Likewise, having to go to a cafe next door for breakfast was not made clear in our booking.

No meet and greet; draught entering window where my bed was located, had an uncomfortable night.
After I had breakfast I returned to my room and had terrible stomach pain. As we set off in the car to Pevensey Castle I was violently sick and had to swap drivers. The intention was to visit Battle Abbey. As I was in such distress I told my wife to go straight home. This meant the day's plan was cancelled. We proceeded to drive 65 miles back to Beckenham where I returned to bed to recover. It was a 24 hour sickness. It could have been something I had eaten at breakfast or a stomach bug?
