Great staff, nice clean rooms. Restaurant not so great.

There was a sweet handwritten card wishing my husband and I a nice anniversary with a few sweet treats waiting for us in the room. Very nice touch, we loved it. Thank you! The pool was nice. Small and intimate which may or may not be good depending on others but the other guests were quiet and lovely so it was great. Great pool floaties for tanning, reading etc- super sturdy and nice.

Lilian’s restaurant was not as good as we remember, perhaps due to chef change. Most everything was just OK. The house water tasted awful and was warm. Also had to send the steak back- overcooked and not edible. Staff was great about it though. Drinks were good.

Rats in the private patio area

For our stay, we booked a villa because we wanted to have a private patio where we could sit and enjoy the beautiful weather. However, on our first night, we ordered room service to eat on the patio and shortly after our food arrived, 2 rats ran out of the ivy and started fighting right in front of us. I reported the incident first thing in the morning and was informed someone would be sent over to look into it. A few hours later, when we were leaving our room, we saw a dead rat in the rose planters in our patio and a live rat running around in the ivy again. So after having multiple issues with rats in our patio area even after reporting it, we no longer felt comfortable using the private patio area, which was why we had booked the villa compared to one of the bungalows. We were given a $500 credit, but considering the room was $1,100 a night, we stayed 2 nights, and we had to report the issue twice, I would have expect a new room or 1 night comped considering the reputation that The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe has. The reason I’m giving a 2 instead of a 1 is because the spa was very nice and the food was great!

Charming rooms and beautiful grounds. A great place to go for a couple days to relax. Make sure to bring a good book to read by the pool

Good location and great for families with small kids.

Overall, this feels like a typical 3-star hotel in a good location. It’s very family-friendly, so expect lots of kids running around, very noisy. The soundproofing is poor, and I could easily hear neighbors walking early in the morning. Housekeeping was below expectations. The refrigerator still had food from the previous guest, trash wasn’t always removed, and bathroom amenities weren’t consistently replaced. The biggest disappointment was the value. I paid nearly $3k for two nights, and the experience wasn’t even close to worth that price. At half the cost, I might have felt differently, but at this rate I expected much better.
