    Great inn stay with dogs

This old inn has converted the buildings attached in the courtyard at the rear to dog friendly ‘chalets’ and it was full and buzzing. Great food, real ales and there are tables outside each room for you to dine if good weather (middle of heatwave when we stayed). The breakfast was great too and the friendly staff remembered customers and their presences etc. There’s land at the rear for parking and doggie late night ablutions but the local dog walks are fantastic just out of the door once we’d found the lay of the land. The hotel provided electric fan for the heatwave. Highly recommended.

As it was so busy it was at times a bit chaotic reminded us of holidays abroad which isn’t really a criticism but be prepared for crowds in good weather. I was very disappointed that the dog per night charge was doubled as we had two dogs I find this over the top do they expect double the mess are they going to clean it twice? My dogs are hotel trained and left no mess. If they are charging for dog hair allergies etc one deep clean would suffice. The dogs get nothing for the charge unlike other hotels where dog packs are in the rooms (and in some beds and bowls are offered). I know all dogs / dog owners differ but at the discretion of management they could refund part of this charge perhaps. I suspect the rooms don’t get an extra double clean. Also, we had some giant woodlice in the bathroom who returned when we removed them - slightly worried that this might be signs of damage to the historic buildings.
