Amazing location
The rooms were far away and located in a different street - you walked to your rooms by a maze of back corridors and up and down back stairways

Perfect for a short stay in Oxford
The check in was very efficient, our room was clean, cosy and comfortable. We slept very well with blackout curtains and an extremely comfortable bed. Our room looked out onto the martyrs memorial on the main road but it was still very quiet inside. There was very little corridor noise. We enjoyed the gothic victorian architecture and the English country house decor. I rang down to reception with a query which they sorted out straight away. The location was excellent and within a very short walk were all the main attractions, with the Ashmolean Museum just opposite the hotel. I think the walk to the rail station is about 10 minutes. We would definitely stay here again.

The room was spacious, beautiful, and extremely comfortable. The bed was very comfortable and beautifully made, and the whole room was exceptionally clean, tidy, and well organised. I really liked the theme of the room, the quality of the curtains, and the materials used throughout — everything looked stunning and felt very high quality. The bathroom impressed me very much. The tiles and marble were beautiful and gave it a luxurious feel. I also loved the products provided for body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. I use some of the same luxury products at home, so seeing them in the bathroom immediately added to the feeling of quality and attention to detail. Breakfast was also very nice, with a fantastic variety of food and plenty of choices. One of the most convenient things was that breakfast was served until 11:00 a.m., which made the whole experience feel much more relaxed and enjoyable.
The hotel appeared to be short-staffed. On arrival at around 3 p.m., we waited about 10 minutes at reception while one receptionist assisted another guest and another seemed busy walking back and forth. It was my partner’s birthday present, and I had booked and paid for everything in advance. However, the receptionist placed paperwork in front of both of us showing prices and financial details. This made me uncomfortable, as I would have preferred this information to be discussed more privately. The hotel is five-star, but at times the service did not feel premium. Staff were helpful, but the experience lacked the personal attention I would expect from a luxury hotel. We also waited a long time in the piano room before approaching a waiter ourselves for food and drinks. In the restaurant, it took a long time to place our order, receive the bill, and then pay by card. My partner asked if the mashed potatoes could be removed or replaced with chips. The waiter said no and suggested carrots instead. I found it slightly funny, but my partner did not, and eventually decided not to order any food. At night, it was very difficult to sleep because our room faced a busy street. Cars and motorbikes were extremely noisy. My partner went to reception to ask for earplugs but waited around 20 minutes and returned without them because the staff were too busy. At around 1:30 a.m., I went downstairs myself to ask. There was also a strong smell of food around the reception area, as a member of staff was eating in the nearby staff room. Of course, staff need breaks, but this did not feel appropriate for a five-star reception area. At breakfast, we were seated next to a cold corridor, even though we had asked for a different table.

Customer service needs improvement.
The Hotel lobby was pretty and the sitting areas. Location is great. Rooms were okay but I would have expected a little better for the price.
The staff was not friendly. Sometimes quite rude. We asked to access our van and we were treated very rudely by the two staff members at the desk. Very unacceptable. { October 6th } We also booked a king size bed and our room was changed without asking us. We were told it was an upgrade but the bed was small and so was the room. Customer service could greatly improve for the price. Location is not good enough. We will chose a different hotel next time just to find better customer service despite the price.
