  Disrespectful service and disappointing food

  The view from the pool was pretty

  Unfortunately, our stay was disappointing, mainly for two reasons. First, the way the male receptionist treated me at check-in was frankly sexist and made me feel very uncomfortable. He addressed everything exclusively to my husband, completely ignoring me even when I was standing right there and asking questions myself. He also immediately tried to make conversation with my husband about football, asking whether he watched it, as if he had automatically assumed that he was the person he should be speaking to simply because he is the man in the couple. It felt like a very old-fashioned, chauvinistic attitude — similar to the frustrating experience of having a tradesman come to your home and address the man instead of the woman, even when she is the one asking the questions. This was particularly disappointing from a hotel that should be welcoming and respectful to both guests. Second, we were very disappointed with the food. Unfortunately, the entire dining concept was based around dietary restrictions, and there was essentially no option to simply have normal food. The meals were mediocre at best, and we found them particularly disappointing given the relatively high prices. Even something as basic as regular milk for coffee was not available. These two experiences significantly affected our stay and left us feeling that the hotel did not provide the level of service and hospitality we expected.

  My stay at The Retreat Costa Rica was nothing short of extraordinary. It was truly the best birthday I have ever celebrated, and I couldn’t have chosen a more perfect place. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with genuine warmth and exceptional hospitality. A very special thank you to Lizbeth, that was able to speak to me in my native language (Italian) and Roger at the front desk. Their kindness, professionalism, and attention to every detail made me feel valued and cared for throughout my entire stay. The chef and the entire restaurant staff deserve the highest praise. Every meal was an unforgettable culinary experience—beautifully presented, incredibly fresh, and absolutely delicious. Their passion and dedication shine through in every dish and every interaction. I would also like to recognize the housekeeping team for their outstanding work. My room and all the resort facilities were kept spotless every day, creating a peaceful and relaxing environment. The resort itself is breathtaking. The facilities are beautifully maintained, the pools are stunning, and the entire property is surrounded by incredible natural beauty that makes it easy to disconnect, relax, and recharge. What truly sets The Retreat Costa Rica apart, however, is its amazing staff. Every single person I met went above and beyond to make my stay unforgettable. Their genuine care and hospitality made me feel like family. Thank you to everyone at The Retreat Costa Rica for making my birthday so incredibly special. I will always cherish these memories, and I can’t wait to return. I highly recommend this beautiful resort to anyone looking for a world-class wellness retreat and an unforgettable experience.
