Lovely stay in a comfortable cozy house in an area of exeptional beauty and history.
The location was perfect, on the edge of Haltwhistle but close enough to walk in. My husband loved the dark skies for his astronomy. Rooms spacious, each with en suite. Beds were amazing, kitchen well equiped (no egg cups that I could find though). Log burner in living room was fab and especially welcome after being out in the cold, walking in the beautiful surrounding countryside. Close to Vindolanda, the Roman Army museum, and Hadrian's wall. Would highly recommend a visit to all three. There is a lovely walk to the Sycamore Gap from not far from the house. So pleasing to see that it is growing once again. Lots of lovely places to eat/drink/takeaway nearby. Would recommend the Black Bull, lovely food. Milecastle Inn also lovely to pop in for a refreshment on the way home.
No Egg cups (small thing but I like a boiled egg in the morning). Apologies if there was some there and I couldn't find them

A well placed and interesting old inn
The Spotty is an old inn located on the eastern edge of Haltwhistle but within an easy walk to the town centre. It's USP is three large bedrooms each with an ensuite shower room. The beds are comfortable and there is plenty of cupboard space. The kitchen has been fully modernised and includes a washing machine and dryer as well as a dishwasher and the usual equipment/utensils/crockery etc. The central heating is efficient and we appreciated it on some wet August days. The owner, Linda, lives next door and was very helpful. Haltwhistle is handy for the forts on Hadrian's Wall but it also has a railway station on the Carlisle - Newcastle line. We travelled to Durham one day - it was an easy journey, changing at Newcastle. The Spotty doesn't have an electric car charging point but we used a reasonably priced Fuuse charger at a nearby garage.
We were happy with everything but the decor, apart from the kitchen, is a little old fashioned. There are a lot of steps that some people may find a drawback.
