    Comfortable stay in Kyoto, great location and useful amenities!

    We had an overall pleasant stay at Toyoko Inn during our visit to Kyoto! The location is definitely one of its strongest points: just a short walk from Nijo Castle and well connected by public transportation to the rest of the city, making it a convenient base for exploring Kyoto. There is also a convenience store right downstairs, which was extremely useful! The room was quite small, as is common in Japanese hotels, but it was generally clean, comfortable, and equipped with everything we needed. Pajamas and shower essentials were provided, and additional amenities were available in the lobby. Breakfast was mainly Japanese-style, but there were also some sweet options, and we found it quite enjoyable! We particularly appreciated being able to use the breakfast area 24/7, with a water dispenser, coffee, and tea available. Such a convenient feature after a long day of sightseeing!

    The check-in process was a little confusing. Although the hotel has automated self-check-in machines, a staff member was simultaneously guiding us through the process and seemed to become impatient at times. We felt it would have been smoother to either let guests complete the process independently or provide a fully staff-assisted check-in. The other issue was the laundry facility. Unfortunately, after using the washing machine, our clothes came out smelling worse than before, with an unpleasant damp, musty odor, and we had to wash them again. It almost seemed as though the machine hadn’t used enough detergent or hadn’t cleaned the clothes properly.
