A Very Comfortable Cave!
This place took a little finding initially, as Matera old town is a maze of narrow alleys and steps. Eventually we messaged Giovanna, Who magically appeared from a door just yards away from where we stood. We had walked right by the property, as google maps reckoned it was further along the Via than it actually was. The town is famous for its caves, and this apartment is just that. On entering through the front (and only) door we found ourselves in a long enclosed space, which was cool even without the aircon running. The bedroom !! - it is a circular former oven with a domed brick built ceiling with traces of scorch marks from its former life. A fabulous place to sleep. Not many people get to tell of sleeping in an oven on holiday !! The Kitchen is little more than a corner of the cave, hidden behind what appears at first glance to be just cupboards. However it had all we needed to prepare breakfast and lunch. There are so many great eateries in town that we didn't feel the need to cook dinner for ourselves. The bathroom is plenty good enough. One niggle was the loose toilet seat, but apart from that this property makes for a terrific stay in Matera. One feels very much part of the history whilst living in a cave. Giovanna speaks no English, so be prepared to use google translate or to practice your Italian on her. Once we found a way to communicate she was the perfect host.

L'appartamento era pulito, caldo e molto accogliente e con tutto il necessario per il soggiorno. Inoltre era sempre riscaldato, considerando che erano giornate molto fredde. La camera, ricavata all'interno di un vecchio forno 3 molto originale e suggestiva. Parcheggio comodo fuori dal paese. La signora gentilissima e disponibile, ci ha fornito tutte le informazioni necessarie Anche se sono stata già 3 volte a Matera, spero di tornare! Sempre magica! Consigliatissimo!

La magia di Matera
La Sig.a Giovanna è stata molto accogliente e disponibile, flessibilissima sugli orari di check-in e check-out. Ci ha inoltre fatto trovare in casa frutta in abbondanza, torta e biscotti, acqua, tè e caffè. La stanza da letto è davvero magica, coi led che illuminano la roccia e le stelline che appaiono a luce spenta. Ambiente davvero unico e suggestivo. In casa c'è tutto, anche i fornelli x cucinare ed un altro letto da una piazza e mezzo (larghezza 120). La posizione è perfetta x visitare tutti gli angoli della città ed il panorama è mozzafiato.
Mi è piaciuto tutto, volendo si potrebbe modernizzare il bagno ma non è strettamente necessario.

Matera vale la pena
El alojamiento está en un lugar privilegiado. La anfitriona encantadora y atenta. Nos dejó mil detalles , desde cápsulas de café para todos los dias que estuvimos a fruta y galletas. La estadía fué muy agradable. Las vistas increibles. El alojamiento es la planta baja de un edificio muy antiguo, la cama está instalada en el espacio que era un horno. Es espacioso y cómdo.
