  Book somewhere else if you want a comfortable sleep or a hospitable host.

  Climbing the 134 steps to the property was a nice workout.

  The room was not clean, with four or five large house spiders, cobwebs, and bugs throughout the space. If you’re sensitive to insects, this place is not suitable. The main issue was the lack of air‑conditioning. We booked knowing there was no AC, but only because the listing clearly stated the room had a fan. We would have never booked this place if it had no AC and no fan, especially in the middle of summer in Croatia. When we couldn’t find the fan, we told the host we’d slept poorly and asked for the one advertised. She said “previous guests broke it,” and refused to provide any alternative. Instead of helping, she came to our door to complain at length about guests “breaking everything,” how “hard” it is for her to maintain the property, and how many things around the house “don’t work anymore.” None of this was relevant to our request — we simply needed the basic amenity she advertised. She later returned with the broken fan, not to solve the problem, but to show us it was broken and repeat that there was “nothing she could do.” When we politely suggested removing the fan from the listing if she cannot provide it, she told us that maybe we were “too young” to understand her line of work — though we apparently weren’t too young to book, pay for, and stay in her accommodation. I do not feel sorry for a landlord who owns a huge house in Opatija and rents out three tiny rooms for a ridiculous amount of money, yet cannot provide basic amenities she advertises or maintain the property. The room itself was extremely hot, with only a tiny window that provides almost no airflow. Because the house is in a wooded area, opening the window lets in bugs and geckos, making it impossible to cool the room. Overall, the misleading listing, the lack of basic comfort, and especially the host’s attitude made the stay uncomfortable. I would not stay here again.
