  Trip ruined by cash deposit policy

  The ambience of the hotel was pleasant and I particularly liked the greenery in the centre. The rooms and facilities were all clean and the location was good - close to things but far enough out to relax.

  My experience of what could be a nice hotel was utterly ruined by check-in. We were in a group of seven and were aware beforehand that there would be a deposit required. It's unfortunate but I understand they wish to avoid trouble with groups. However, the deposit was EUR400 more than originally quoted and they insisted on it being in cash, as opposed to the standard hold on card. This was highly inconvenient and cost us all extra, given the ATM charges and issues with exchanging the cash back at a poor rate at the end of the trip - the only point we could have got it back. I was perfectly happy to have a hold on my card, as I knew we had no intention of causing any problems, however, the staff were abrasive, rude and insistent. I would ask them to change this policy, particularly as it has no benefit for them (our cash was returned before the rooms were turned out, so hypothetically we could have caused damage but retained our deposit). It was such an unpleasant beginning to the trip, ruined the otherwise fair value of the rooms and left us with the impression that this is a venue that would dishonestly take the cash if they could. I challenge them to accuse us of any wrongdoing in our rooms and would remind them that while we may be a group, we are still guests and that unfair policies can and should be reviewed on a case by case basis - especially as we met several other guests, who had been charged no deposit at all. Really poor.

  Fantastic hotel great food lovely staff. Excellent entertainment, no need to leave hotel which was perfect
