Poor Accommodation, Poor Host, Would Not Book Again

The location of the property certainly suited our needs. It was remote and in a naturist village, which we have visited for years. The complex swimming pool was excellent and very well maintained. The surrounding gardens were lovely and were also well maintained by the 'pool man'. The complex itself was a mix of permanent residents and tourists and everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed the use of a balcony on the second floor of the property because it had great views of the pool, gardens and the sea and rugged lava landscape. The washing machine worked extremely well.

Without doubt, the worst accommodation we have encountered at Charco del Palo. The property was dark, dingy and dirty. We contacted the owner and asked him to visit us but he made excuses and finally sent an apology message on our departure. From the start we knew we were in for a poor stay when we realised that the photos on the website DO NOT match those of the actual property. The standard of cleaning was appalling (SUGGESTION: CHANGE THE CLEANER!). We spent the first day of our holiday purchasing cleaning materials and then cleaning areas within the property so it made us feel comfortable for our four-week stay. The cupboards and drawers in the property, living area contained 'rubbish items', including old food, drinks and spices. The crockery and cutlery were poor and did not match! The furniture in the bedrooms had an Asian style and smelt. Many of the drawers were packed with 'old' blankets. There was no furniture space big enough to hang a dress so we utilised a coat rack and a towel rail, which we kept well away from the permanent bedroom furniture. The back garden and BBQ, were in a disgusting condition, with a filthy/rusted BBQ and broken garden furniture. The property is tiled and the grout between the tiles was filthy. It was clear that the cleaner was merely using a dirty mop to wipe them over. The front patio furniture was old, the table was rusty, whilst the chairs (only three) were in poor repair and, we thought, not safe to sit on. In the outside covered area, which is not secure, was the washing machine but the rest of the area had shelving packed with more blankets (?) and two old sun beds. The sun beds were old, dirty and had ripped coverings, the main bed was hard, bedding was poor and never ironed, there were stained towels, the fridge was not working properly, the bath was rusty, the bathroom window was rotten, and there was an open electric panel downstairs. Curtains are dirty and cannot be drawn easily.
