  Shocking conditions, completely unacceptable. The Damp Dungeon. The Booking from Hell

  The sea is within easy walking distance. There are cafés and bars nearby where you can have a coffee or grab something to eat.

  This was not our first family visit to Opatija — we have been here several times and we really love this city. Unfortunately, this time the condition of the apartment genuinely shocked us and was completely unacceptable. The first thing we saw when we entered was the sofa where our daughter was supposed to sleep. It had not been prepared as a bed, was covered in greasy stains, badly scratched and damaged, apparently by animals, and had a strong unpleasant smell of dogs and cats. The hosts had not even bothered to prepare a proper sleeping place for our child. After searching around and opening the sofa, we found crumpled bedding inside that looked dirty and had visible stains on it. Apparently, we were expected to use this for our daughter. Only after I sent an angry message to the host did a young woman arrive, let herself into the apartment, and bring us another crumpled sheet. Unfortunately, the rest of the bedding was not much better. It looked extremely old and worn, smelled strongly of damp and mildew, and was very unpleasant to sleep in. The blanket smelled so bad that my wife refused to use it and had to cover herself with a small towel throughout our stay, which left her exposed to mosquitoes at night. Our daughter also woke up with multiple bites after sleeping there. I rarely write reviews this negative, but the sleeping conditions were simply unacceptable for accommodation offered to families with children. And unfortunately, the problems did not end there. The bathroom was in poor condition. The door handle immediately came off and fell onto the floor when we tried to use it. The sink was clogged with what appeared to be hair, so the water barely drained. The following day, we discovered a large puddle next to the toilet and realised that the toilet cistern was leaking water onto the floor.
