    Woodlands Cottage is lovely but needs a good clean.

    Woodlands Cottage is a lovely big house, situated in an ideal location for York. It had a very big garden, which the dogs loved.

    Unfortunately the Cottage needed a really good clean. The floor was filthy, there was cobwebs everywhere and the bathrooms upstairs needed a good scrub. There were 7 Adults, 2 one year olds and 3 dogs staying and we found the dishwasher didn’t clean properly either! And we only got left one tee towel. The garden was huge, but could have done with a mow too. We didn’t get enough towels, tee towels or cutlery either but to be fair once we reported this, we were quick to receive more.

    So much potential but repeatedly badly executed

    The location is excellent. A great common across the from the house for dog walking (on a lead due to wildlife). Barn owls hunt silently in the field behind the house at dusk. The location is great.

    When finding this property on my phone, the reviews are presented in a way that only shows positive aspects of the property. However, when you dig deeper and read the expanded reviews you will see that there is a persistent issue with cleaning of the house. We stayed over easter weekend and when we arrived the house was filthy and over the weekend we just kept finding more and more issues. Absolutely thick with dust, an Xmas tree in the kitchen suggested we were the first guests of the year and probably the first people to set foot in the house since then as the place hadn't seen a cleaner in months! The same issues as many other guests and looking back I can see that their cleaners have been having issues since 2023! If you are prepared to clean the place top to bottom when you arrive then you may well enjoy your stay. I won't give the place a 1 out of 10 and claim there's nothing positive about the house, it is spacious and well located but sadly, poorly managed.
