  Extremely disappointing, lack of cleaning ruined our stay

  Good location and property design but cleaner/cleaning let it down and appeared to be neglected for long periods of time.

  Extremely disappointing stay and nowhere near the standard we expected for the price. We specifically chose and paid more for this property because we wanted a peaceful, special break away from the hustle and bustle with our dog. Unfortunately, the poor cleanliness completely ruined what should have been a relaxing stay. We arrived around 7pm to find red stains on the bedding. After trying to email and call the owner (who was international) we had little choice that evening but to put a towel over it. We checked the other beds and found hairs, bobbling and dirty, old bedding on those too. The towels were hard and mismatched. Lots of other cleanliness issues like grime, dirt and dust which left us feeling disappointed. The owner arranged for the cleaner to attend the following morning when we were out, but the replacement bedding was still covered in hairs, old and ripped. There was also dust, hair and stains around the apartment, including on easily cleaned surfaces such as windowsills and chairs. The cleaner didnt address any of this on their visit during our stay. We spent valuable time trying to resolve the issue rather than enjoying our break, and by the time we returned from our day out we were genuinely dreading going back. We stayed because we had our dog and it was the weekend, so alternative accommodation wasn't a realistic option. The owner offered to refund the cleaning fee, but this has still not been refunded. We also requested appropriate compensation for the condition of the property and the impact on our stay, but there has been no further communication since last week. The photos promise a lovely, relaxing property, but the reality was a very disappointing and frustrating experience. For the money we paid, it simply wasn't worth it and we would not return. Photos below of additional cleaning issues, such a shame as it has so much potential but ruined our stay as felt so uncomfortable.

  Gorgeous house. Some problems.

  Beautiful house, great location and views. Perfect spot for getting into York and big enough for our group to enjoy. Lovely little outside space too.

  Definitely not cleaned thoroughly enough (dust, cobwebs and sticky floor). The top floor ensuite shower and the ground floor shower connected to the bedroom suite both flooded when in use. There were no cleaning products for guests to use. Not even washing up liquid or hand soap. Only a couple of dishwasher tabs. We couldn't unlock the lock box because we were supplied with the wrong code and the booking.com helpline couldn't get hold of anyone. Fortunately they found the correct code. Bedding did not smell fresh and clean. Instructions were basic and we had to hunt for the outside bin key so we could throw our rubbish away. Only one bin bag provided.

  The house has good spaces for people to relax and is located on the river which is lovely. It's a short walk into the city which is great for sightseeing and getting around.

  The road outside is noisy and the one of the downstairs bathrooms gets flooded by the shower. The upstairs beds are not that comfortable and it got pretty hot on the top floor.

  Amazing property, we loved staying here! The place is huge and just a short walk into York town centre. No parking at the house but was easy to find some down the street. Thank you for a really lovely stay
