Different experience
Traditional experience and the meals provided. Everything works like clockwork with preparing the room for bedtime and serving of the meal. Polite and respectful staff.
Not as expected as the property is small with a little garden in the middle of the rooms. Enough just to stand in the middle. Lack of clear information of the Ryokan experience from the staff. Noisy as it’s on the Main Street. They seem to be in a rush to check you out.

Beyond perfection
Everything was beyond perfection. Excellent position in center Gion, right next to a sanctuary. Japanese style ryokan with perfect furnitures and services. Staff incredibily kind with good english. Public onsen inside. Very high quality kaiseki dinner and traditional breakfast. AC in every room and even little veranda. They have a smal water fall INSIDE the structure!
The traditional wooden wall dont block many of the noises of the central roads nearby, but when the area become more silent the night il quiet and calm.

An aesthetic oasis in the heart of Kyoto
For those coming to Kyoto seeking to really feel immersed in Kyoto’s aesthetic and atmosphere, I commend to you Yuzuya Ryokan. The room and outlook (into a beautiful interior garden with water feature) was in and of itself a work of art. Exquisite antique furniture in the room add to what is already a gorgeous setting. The ryokan is well situated close to a Main Street in Gion, so exploration is easy. The highlight of the stay is the breakfast. I was given a table facing the interior garden which was absolutely the most peaceful and meditative way to start the day; a breakfast is then slowly unfolded to you by the staff, many small dishes of exquisite flavour and beauty. Possibly the best breakfast I’ve had in Japan. The main bath (ofuro) for this ryokan boasts the reasonably unique addition of citrus fruits. It was a nice experience, but for the benefit of other travellers I will advise, the ofuro is quite modest (space for just two people to wash, and perhaps 4 to fit comfortably in the bath itself). I expect that being a boutique ryokan, this rarely presents much issue as it will be unlikely every male guest will decide to bath at the same time; however, it’s worth noting that there is an option to book a room with its own private ofuro, including your own private store of citrus, and this experience to me was perhaps just as good or better than using the main bath.
