The best way I can describe this property is a lotus in a swamp. The property itself is quite attractive and has some genuinely appealing qualities, but unfortunately, its location, accessibility and surrounding area significantly detract from the overall experience.
The hotel is situated in a very low socio-economic area, slum type area and the approach is via a narrow road with extensive potholes. It is also quite far from most of Ho Chi Minh City’s main tourist attractions. My impression was that the property functions primarily as a wedding and events venue for local residents rather than as a hotel particularly well suited to international tourists. I was also surprised by some of the pricing. I was charged 42,000 VND for a bottle of water that would typically cost around 10,000 VND at a convenience store. I fully understand that hotels charge a premium, but more than four times the normal retail price felt excessive. Unfortunately, there was another issue that made my stay particularly difficult. My room was on the second floor, with no lift and no bellboy or assistance with luggage. At 60 years of age, I had to carry approximately 30 kg of luggage plus a 7 kg hand bag up two flights of stairs myself, and then carry everything back down again when checking out. For a property operating as a hotel, I found the lack of either a lift or assistance with heavy luggage disappointing. I had originally planned to stay longer, but after two days I decided to leave and booked my final night elsewhere. It is unfortunate because the property itself is attractive and has potential. However, the combination of the surrounding area, difficult access, distance from the city’s attractions, excessive pricing for basic items and lack of assistance with luggage made the overall experience unsuitable for me.
