Lovely apartment, disappointing service that soured my stay.
Terrible customer service… I have never felt so unwelcomed during any of my past travel experiences. My first trip to Albania with my Albanian partner took a turn the moment we got to this place. Despite the lady at the front desk speaking to me in English via text 1 hour before our arrival as well as on seeing me arrive at the top of the stairs first, she quickly changed to full Albanian on seeing my partner. She asked him regarding payment of the stay, which was in my name and when he directed the question at me in English - she proceeded in Albanian. She spoke to him about the entire check-in and out , apartment locking/entering process in Albanian as well as on entering the property. I may as well not have been there, or maybe would not need to know any of these details. What was more frustrating was that this was all clearly a choice. Given the fact that she had sent me WhatsApp messages in English prior to our arrival and asked if it was my first time in Albania on seeing me, to which I answered “yes”. At some stage she could see I was annoyed and proceeded to ask my partner the same question in Albanian as well as asking him, “what is going on? There are so many African people coming to the country to visit”. Proving a few things: - you know how to speak English, otherwise you would not be front of house in an international establishment. - You are okay with foreign people coming to visit, as long as they are of the correct hue. In what world is that an okay question to ask? Not just in casual conversation with your fellow countrymen, but to someone who is clearly in a partnership with said “African” person. The prejudice clearly was not an isolated event in this place because we didn’t have an iron in our apartment as per the description. Upon alerting to front desk via WhatsApp the next day, I was directed where to find it and completely ignored when I retorted we had searched for 2 days and it was not there.
