  Beautiful photos, disappointing reality

  Do not be misled by the beautiful photographs – they simply do not reflect the reality of this apartment. Nor should you be reassured by the overall positive rating, because, unfortunately, everything mentioned in the negative reviews is true. What is perhaps most disappointing is the overall impression that this apartment is treated primarily as a source of income, with very little care or investment put back into maintaining it. As a result, guests are simply left to deal with the accumulated wear, damage and neglect caused over time by previous visitors. The one genuinely positive aspect was our communication before our arrival, which was friendly and helpful. However, once we reported a problem during our stay, we were assured that it would be dealt with – and then heard nothing further.

  The water pressure in the bathroom was so poor, and the shower so difficult to adjust, that washing our hair properly in the shower was virtually impossible. We ended up washing it bent over the bathroom sink. The flooring is warped in several places. Near the dishwasher, it is so badly damaged and raised that walking there barefoot could easily result in a cut foot. The cleaning was careless and superficial. Our son even punctured his finger on a sharp object left behind, which we photographed and will attach to this review. The blinds are broken and, on some windows, cannot even be raised. As a result, the apartment remains unnecessarily dark for most of the day. The toilet seat is cracked, leaving you constantly worried that normal use might break it completely. There are visible holes in the walls from previous attempts to repair or reinstall the blinds, which have simply been left unfinished. The communal hallway is unbearably hot. By the time you leave the building, you practically feel as though you need to change your clothes again. The nearest Underground station is approximately a 12-minute walk away, through a large modern residential development. We were given virtually no instructions on how to use the appliances or what was provided. The check-in took about two minutes and essentially amounted to “here it is, enjoy your stay”. Considering that the listing specifically advertises facilities such as a washing machine and dishwasher, we would have expected at least basic information about their use and whether essentials such as dishwasher tablets were provided and, if so, where to find them. The owners also appear to be well aware that there is an unpleasant smell in the apartment, as cheap plug-in or freestanding air fresheners have been placed throughout the property. Rather than addressing the source of the smell, it feels as though an attempt has simply been made to mask it.
